Raising the Mainsail

I used to advertise my shortcomings
and people all around me used to say
You are a good person. Hide those things.
Show off the good in you everyday.

But that was before I screwed the pooch,
figuratively speaking.
Now they don’t say anything.
From me, they’re all retreating.

I know how to lift my chin
to live a life of confidence.
Though now I do so all alone,
forced into social penance.

With nothing left but to go on living,
I open my sails to life’s constant breeze.
If my new course attracts you at all,
I invite you to join me as you please.
