In response to The Daily Post’s writing prompt: “In Due Time“
Literacy is not a matter
of whether or not you can read and write.
It is about the ability to comprehend
and think critically,
particularly in regards to the written word.
Linguistics is about thinking
in any given language.
Translating every word
back into your native tongue
may get you by,
but does not qualify you as bilingual.
In this same vein,
friendship with me
can be faked with a friendly smile
a complimentary tone
or a gift given on the right day.
But, I am wising up
and learning that true friendship
stems from your beliefs about me
—how you see me in your heart—
and not what you said or gave.
So, if this Christmas
there is nothing under my tree from you
that won’t affect my love
nor how I see us,
because in our relationship
it really is the thought that counts.
I am just so happy to have you in my life.
